The temperature has dropped, the sun is setting earlier and the ugg boots are well and truly out! It might not be that cold by international standards, but winter is well and truly upon us, and I have to say, I’m quite excited. Winter food is fabulous!
Okay, maybe it’s not quite that cold. But to many, winter food means decadence. Pudding sounds like a great idea, as does a rich slow cooked stew over creamy mash. Paired with a big, bold shiraz, of course. Now these are great options, just not for every night of the week. But fear not. When it comes to regular week night dinner fare, this season still has plenty to offer.
Soups are my weeknight winter weapon of choice, and stay with me, because I’m not talking about the dull variety. With a little creativity, soups can offer a delicious and healthy celebration of the season. And adding another one pot dinner to your repertoire never hurts!
In case you didn’t get the memo, Nutrition Australia has revamped their Healthy Eating Pyramid, on account of the fact that Australians just aren’t eating enough vegetables (national nutrition survey). Or whole grains, for that matter, which is where a snazzy soup recipe or two can come in handy. Anyone who has attempted to feed salad to a toddler can appreciate the benefits of a blitzed vege soup. But with so many delicious recipes out there, how does one choose? Lucky for us our fantastic Storehouse bloggers have already put in the hard yards in the kitchen and are bringing us their most nourishing and delectable soup options to get you through this chilly season.
